2020 will always be known as the year of COVID-19. The City of Byram experienced significant increases in auto burglaries and auto thefts in 2020. Retail theft fell and violent crime remained consistently low.
Many of the auto-related crimes involved vehicles that were left unlocked and/or with keys left in them, leading us to believe that much of the property related crime we experienced could have been deterred simply by folks removing valuables and keys from parked vehicles and then locked vehicles when left unattended.
Also notable is the fact that 2/3 of all arrests in Byram were of individuals that do not reside in the city.
