Public Safety Dispatcher

The Byram Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher. To apply for this position, interested persons shall be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Applicants shall have NO previous convictions for felony crimes or misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence.

  • Competitive Salary – Dispatchers start at $25,000 per year/raised to $28,500 after one year.
  • Up to $1,300 education pay for employees with college degrees

Recruit/Lateral Police Officer

The Byram Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer / Police Recruit. To apply for this position, interested persons shall be at least 20 years of age and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Applicants shall have NO previous convictions for felony crimes or misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence. If you suffer from separation anxiety related to your mobile device or your mother, this is going to be an exceptionally challenging process. If you have a warrant you will certainly get the interview.

(We are not currently accepting applications for Recruit Police Officer. Those wishing to apply for the Recruit position are encouraged to apply for the Public Safety Dispatcher Position.)

Applicants shall agree to participate in an extensive selection process that includes:

    • Recruits start at $26,300 per year/raised to $30,000 upon successful completion of basic academy and field training programs
    • Certified Officers start at $30,000 annually
    • *Lateral Officers start at $35,000 annually

  • Employer provided health, vision, & dental insurance
  • All necessary uniforms and equipment are provided
  • Assigned take-home car (certain restrictions apply)

*Lateral Police Officers shall hold a current state law enforcement certification from any state and have at least three (3) years of continuous law enforcement experience from the certification date. Applicants for Lateral Police Officer SHALL include their state of certification and certification number to be considered for the position.
