2020 will always be known as the year of COVID-19. The City of Byram experienced significant increases in auto burglaries and auto thefts in 2020. Retail theft fell and violent crime remained consistently low.
Many of the auto-related crimes involved vehicles that were left unlocked and/or with keys left in them, leading us to believe that much of the property related crime we experienced could have been deterred simply by folks removing valuables and keys from parked vehicles and then locked vehicles when left unattended.
Also notable is the fact that 2/3 of all arrests in Byram were of individuals that do not reside in the city.
Brandon Julius Andrews (19 years old) turned himself into Byram Police Detectives on two counts of armed robbery. Andrews is accused of meeting men on a dating social network and luring them to Byram for the purpose of robbing them. Andrews was transferred to the custody of the Hinds County Detention Center with a $250,000 bond.
This remains an active investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Byram Police at (601) 372-2327.
On June 26, an auto burglary was reported near Building 53 at Bradford Place Apartments. Another similar burglary has since been reported. If you know the identity of the individual shown here, please contact Byram Police Detectives at (601) 372-2327 or Metro CrimeStoppers at (601) 355-TIPS
